Sharpvue Takes Its Surveillance Platform Off the Grid with the Solar Portable Surveillance Unit

The pole-mounted SPSU runs the same iVISION video platform and MySharpvue fleet diagnostics as the MAST trailer line and the AC-powered PSU — on dual solar panels, with no trenching, no electrician, and no grid connection.

Chapin, S.C. Sharpvue today introduced the Solar Portable Surveillance Unit (SV-SPSU), a fully solar-powered, pole-mounted surveillance platform that puts the company's cloud video management and remote fleet management software on sites with no power at all. The SPSU completes the portable line: the AC-powered PSU covers permanent sites that have a circuit, and the SPSU covers the ones that never will.

The customer had the pole. They did not have a meter.

The request that produced the SPSU came from customers already running Sharpvue: they had the trailers, they had the PSUs, and they kept hitting sites where neither answered. A remote yard at the end of a two-mile access road. A stretch of highway work. A back corner of a lot where running a circuit meant trenching across ground somebody else owned.

What those sites did have was a pole — utility, light, or sign — and sun. That is the entire requirement for an SPSU.

The same platform, whether or not there is a meter

An SPSU is not a downgraded unit for hard sites. It auto-provisions into the customer's existing account and appears next to their trailers and PSUs, running the same software:

  • iVISION cloud VMS — unlimited live streams, continuous cloud recording, and AI search across every camera, on the same platform behind the MAST line.
  • One pane of glass — SPSUs, PSUs, MAST trailers, and standalone cameras in a single account, with one login and one set of users.
  • MySharpvue fleet view — solar charge, battery level, connectivity, and system health for every unit on one live map.
  • ODIN, the built-in AI engineer — reads the full unit state, explains what is wrong in plain language, and runs the fix remotely rather than scheduling a truck.
  • Remote power cycling — reboot a camera or the whole unit from a phone. On a site an hour down a dirt road, that is the difference between a five-minute fix and a lost day.
  • Proactive alerts — power, battery, and connectivity events raise a notification before the site goes dark, not after.

Off-grid sites are exactly where remote management stops being a convenience. They are the hardest sites to drive to and the ones most likely to be left unwatched between visits.

Every customer who asked us for this had already been burned by a solar camera somewhere. Not because the panel failed — because when something went wrong there was no way to see it and no way to touch it, so somebody drove out to a field to power-cycle a camera. We built the SPSU the other way around. The solar is the easy part. The part that matters is that you can open your phone, see exactly what the unit is doing, and fix it from where you are standing.

Solar first, grid optional

The SPSU is built to run indefinitely on sun alone, and to keep running when there isn't any.

  • Dual monocrystalline panels feeding an onboard battery through a commercial-grade MPPT charge system.
  • Multiple days of autonomy — the cameras stay up overnight and through cloudy stretches on battery alone.
  • Optional AC failover — universal 110–277V input with automatic switching for permanent installs near power. The unit stays solar-first and takes the grid only when it needs it.
  • Camera capacity scales with power — a PTZ dome and a fixed bullet standard on solar, expandable to four or more cameras when running on AC.

Cameras that track, and a voice that carries

A pan-tilt-zoom dome for active tracking and a fixed bullet with built-in infrared come standard. When camera AI flags an event, two-way audio lets the customer's own team speak through the unit in real time — or the optional Remote Video Monitoring service puts a live operator on it, confirming the threat, calling the subject out by what they are doing, and dispatching police when criminal activity is confirmed. Talk-down ends most incidents before a patrol is ever rolled.

Up in an afternoon

The SPSU clamps to almost any pole and is installed by site personnel — no trenching, no electrician, no grid connection, and no heavy equipment. The enclosure is aluminum and stainless steel with temperature control, sized to sit outdoors on a pole for the life of the site.

The Solar Portable Surveillance Unit is available now, directly from Sharpvue and through the authorized dealer network. Panel wattage and battery capacity vary by configuration and are confirmed on quote. The SPSU is designed and built in the United States.
